Trouble putting on your stockings?

Does putting on your compression stockings feel like World War 3?

I often get feedback from our customers telling us their compression stockings/socks are too tight…. When the reality is in order to do its job and keep you healthy a compression garment needs to be tight.

Once we understand that, we really start to realize that the garment itself may not be to tight, but the garment may be very difficult to put on, which would give you the perception that its too tight, here are a few tips to lessen the “workout” factor of putting on your stockings:

Tip# 1– When you are putting on your stockings or socks, don’t bunch them up like you would a regular sock, compression garments are elastic, when you bunch them up it’s the same thing as doubling a rubber band up, the more bunched up they are the higher the compression becomes = the harder they become to put on.

Tip# 2– Make sure your legs are dry, slipping compression garments can be very difficult if the leg or foot is wet or if lotion was recently applied.

Tip# 3–  Take the garment and put your hand down into it, grab on to the heel and turn the garment inside out without letting go of the heel, then place your foot in the garment using the heel as a guide, once your foot is in all the way simply pull the garment towards the knee.

Tip #4– Use a stocking donner, yes that wire device the doctors office has is available for you to have at home, this is the easiest way to get your compression legwear on daily, check out this wire frame Stocking Donner by Jobst, need an easier way to get them on and off, do you have arthritis in the hand?  If so check out the Sigvaris Doff & Donner, trust me you will be glad you did!
