Summer Events for Seniors | El Paso, Texas

Summer is in full swing here in Texas. There are tons of events going on around the El Paso area that are perfect for the senior crowd. From races to star gazing and even permaculture classes, Texas is the place to be this summer. Check out a few of the events happening soon in the El Paso area:

Culinary Herbs Workshop

Hosted at the El Paso Garden Center at 3105 Grant Ave, the Culinary Herbs Workshop will provide students with the opportunity to learn all about gardening. Master Gardener Propogation Specialists will focus on topics such as choosing the right container, soil, and plants for your garden. For more information click the link above.

Senior Dance

This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy socializing with friends or meeting new people. At the Father Mendez Senior Center, senior dances are hosted for an admission fee of $5. The Galaxies will be performing live music for all to enjoy. Another location hosting senior dances is the Grandview Senior Center.

Stock Car Racing

For those who are interested in racing, the stock car racing events are a great opportunity to take advantage of the summer. Seniors enjoy a discount on admission ($9). VIP pit passes are available as well.

Birding Tour

At the Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site you can expect to see a variety of bird species. Over 200 species call this state park home. Each tour is approximately 2 hours long and participants should bring their own binoculars, cameras, and water. Also be sure to wear adequate sunscreen and wear proper hiking attire. The birding tours are partially wheelchair accessible.

Principles of Permaculture

Pre-registration is required to attend this event. Learn about permaculture and discover unique gardening ideas to implement in your personal garden.

Night Sky Watching

The Carlsbad Caverns National Park is a great place to have a panoramic view of the stars. There are various dates available to come and check out the great view. Telescopes will be available, as well as several expert rangers who are available to discuss folklore and astronomy. For those who are interested in learning more about astronomy, also check out the events held at the Gene Roddenberry Planetarium. Tickets to the Earth, Moon & Sun presentations are free.
