Hold on Tight!

Grab bars in our opinion are the single most important addition one can make while adding safety to the bathroom. Keep in mind grab bars should always be installed professionally to ensure they are properly anchored. There are a variety of different grab bar applications, anchored grab bars are fastened to the structure and offer the most safe and secure form of grab bars. Suction grab bars are also a great addition to any restroom, it is important to note that suction grab bars are not intended to bear weight, also when using suction grab bars, make certain that the surface of the tile is both clean and smooth, texture in the tile can cause the suction device on the bar to fail resulting in a fall. When installing grab bars we recommend a minimum of three grab bars per restroom. Always keep in mind that is our general recommendation; there are bathroom spaces that will require more support depending on the floor plan. Our recommendation of three grab bars covers the most basic application, but should fit most bathrooms. Our recommended installation would include: 1- The first Grab Bar Installed at the entry point to the Tub/Shower this bar should typically be installed in a vertical fashion, recommended sizes for this bar would be 18-24” with the center of the bar at chest level. 2- The second grab bar would be installed horizontally running from front to rear of the tub/shower, the recommended size for this application is 32” space permitting. This longer bar provides support throughout the entire length of the tub/shower. Recommended height of this installation would be between the chest and waist of the user. 3- The third Grab Bar installation should be installed in the area of the shower head, this application is well suited in the vertical position with the center running from chest to shoulder height, an appropriate size for this application would be 18-24” There are many different varieties of grab bars available to fit every budget and décor, sizes of grab bars typically range from as small as 9” extending up to 48” in length. When preparing to install grab bars keep in mind planning out the appropriate size and installation heights is key to providing the safest environment possible. Remember that a Grab Bar is only as stable as the anchors used to secure it is recommended to install with heavy duty wall/tile anchors to ensure the strongest application which ultimately results in the safest installation. In addition to adding grab bars for support, we also recommend minimizing the slipperiness of the bathroom floor; there are two great tools for preventing slipping when in the shower.
