Does your tailbone hurt?

Have you ever sat in a place so long that you start developing lower back/ tailbone discomfort?  If you are like me, the majority of your workday is spent churning away on a keyboard, more often than not, seated.  Over time it can become uncomfortable to sit for extended periods of time and very often it can lead to lower back and tailbone pain.  The tailbone also known as the coccyx can develop a dull achy pain that can become sharp during certain activities; coccyx discomfort becomes more prevalent after sitting a long period of time on a hard surface.  Here are a few tips to relieving coccyx pain:

1.     Sit completely upright, using proper body mechanics such as keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground, back firmly against the chair back and knees level with the hips.

2.     Lean forward when sitting, this distributes the weight of the body towards the legs and relieves coccyx pressure.

3.     As with any pain or discomfort, the use of heat and ice on the affected area, as well as over the counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen, aspirin or acetaminophen can assist in managing the     pain as well.

When suffering with coccyx discomfort and pain, we highly recommend the aid of a cushion.  There are a ton of cushions out there, Donuts, Rings, Coccyx, Slant; they all work well at relieving pain.  We at BEK specifically recommend the Kabooti Cushion by Contour; this cushion combines all of the previously mentioned cushions into one.  Trust me when I say it (mostly because I sit on one myself daily) this cushion is the best.  The Kabooti has all of the ideal properties, contoured legs for comfort, ring and coccyx cutout to eliminate pressure points and a forward slant to distribute the weight towards the legs.  Take a look for yourself Click Here to See Kabooti!
