Ways You Can Celebrate Veterans Day

The men and women who serve our country are selfless individuals who risk their lives to protect our freedom, making sacrifices many of us couldn’t imagine. So this Veterans Day, on November 11th, take some time to let our vets know they’re appreciated. There are plenty of ways to celebrate the holiday.

Say “Thank you”

It may seem like a small and simple gesture, but thanking a veteran can go a long way! Even a quick phone call will let the person know you appreciate their service.

Volunteer

There are many meaningful volunteer activities focused on veterans that you can participate in. Sign up to give vets a ride through Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization that provides free transportation to men and women unable to travel to VA medical facilities on their own. You can also use websites like Volunteer Match to find a hospital, charity or other organization near you that needs help!

Attend a parade

Take your family to a local Veterans Day parade and show your support in person! You can also check with your town’s VA office to get details about Veterans Day events and celebrations in your area.

Send care packages

If you can’t be in person but are looking to do something with a personal touch, consider sending a care package. Fill it with small gifts and snacks that are sure to make a veteran’s day. You could even send prepared food or meals, which would be especially meaningful to vets who are elderly or disabled.
